What are Parent Categories

Parent Categories allow you to group similar categories together and see a tally for the entire bucket. With Parent Categories, you can see big-picture numbers for large groups of things and then drill down into individual categories. You can run reports, create widgets, and view charts using both categories and Parent Categories.

For example, a Parent Category called "Kids Attendance" could be made up of multiple categories like "Preschool Attendance," "Kindergarten Attendance," and "Elementary Attendance."

Another example can be seen below. Parent Categories are marked by a folder icon. You can see that several layers of attendance can be grouped together to create Total_Attendance.

To nest multiple parent categories, build from the bottom up. You can nest up to two levels of parent categories.

Once you have completed your changes, refresh the page to make sure your categories display correctly.
